Martial law declared in NE

This is crazy! How much snow did they get? We got about two feet here i n Ontario and while schools were closed and a few businesses, it was life as usual. Talk about over-reacting. Yes, it can be dangerous to drive if you're not used to those conditions but come on! My husband went out last night for milk and baby supplies and it took longer than usual but he wasn't in any danger. The US gov't is becoming tyrannial. Sheesh. :/

I last heard from friends in Boston at 10:30 pm last night, she said it was getting scary and they could not see out of their windows and, the doors were covered up. She is originally from Maine. I hope to find out something by Monday I remember what happened in Atlanta with 1/2 inch of snow and, we used to make fun of ourselves. I can see Canada handling everything its just that, I feel as if America is seriously getting hammered. We will see what happens in March.

Martial Law? Really? I have spent several winters in NE, and even through a nor-easter once, and I never once saw any reason for any increase of police presence and defintely not martial law. It must be a trial-run for all these " I can't wait for it to break down so we can take over " government crowds. They sure are circling the wagons for something aren't they? New England has some extremely wonderful people. I have been all over up there and never felt safer, and that includes during horrible weather. Whatever reason for ML being called is just another idiotic move by an idiotic administration abusing power.

There is the issue of the volume of drivers on the roads during these disasters these days We had hurricane Ivan in 2005, 20 inches of rain in one day in Atlanta and, what a disaster, trees falling on people, roads flooding, Tornadoes. Maybe because of hurricane Katrina they are more strict. The truth is
that the disasters are getting more frequent and more dangerous.

Yes, snow plows can't clear roads with abandoned cars all over or even get to those stranded. Some rescue personnel had to use snowmobiles. Today's news is full of stranded cars with passengers needing rescue. Sliding off into ditches, etc. Emergency responders can't get to victims when citizens don't heed advisories and warnings. Too much time is wasted when lives are on the line.

An eleven year old boy was killed when the car his dad was driving slid into a ditch. He had helped dad shovel at first and gotten cold. Dad put him in the car and turned it on to warm him up. But a snow embankment they'd slid into blocked the gas pipe, which dad didn't know about as he continued shoveling. Dad found his son dead in the car from the fumes unable to escape the interior of the car. Dad collapsed and rescue personnel took them both to the hospital where the son was officially pronounced dead. I imagine that's one dad who wished he'd stayed off the roads last night. and listened to the warnings.

Emergencies do happen though...we don't know the whole story of why they were out on the road in the storm. Not passing any blame over this tragedy....just mentioning I believe officials were trying to save lives and make clean up more possible and using this story as an example. Rescue people, too, are endangered when out operating trying to save lives of people who should have stayed in place and didn't. This why advisories are given to give time to plan ahead. They try to save lives.

Many warnings were given. Maybe some city/state officials overreacted and got carried away trying to scare those who don't listen into taking them seriously. I don't know. But most major cities advise staying off the roads and will threaten with fines if this isn't done. Cars get red tagged and one must go to city pound or ?? to find their cars later and pay for the costs to the city to get cars back after being towed.. These efforts compound the time and work needed to clean streets for safe travel. If we had their jobs I'm sure we'd understand the frustration they deal with when people don't listen. This was a historic storm occurring; not a usual snowstorm. Officials didn't really know what they would contend with during or after. Rescuing people from homes is compounded with vehicles all over the place. Lives are endangered in those type of situations when people don't take officials seriously.

Please pray for the boys family and especially his dad at this time along with all suffering in this storm. Remember those without power and remember also some of these impacted just suffered Hurricane Sandy losses. How exhausted they must be!

I'd post pictures if I knew how. The kids had a blast playing in the snow. My back aches from shoveling, but that comes with any snow storm. Latest emergency announcement from our town said it will take up to two days for all roads to be 100% passable. We'll be hunkered down for a while. Thank the Lord we are all safe and have power and groceries. If the roads are not cleared by Monday, there be no school again.

Sensationalism only casts doubt on true warnings. Not everything is a sign from God or a fulfilment of scripture.
