It seems all we read; all we watch; everything we do seems to be surrounded with sadness, division, anger and disbelief.

I’m getting to the point that I enjoy doing very little, so I thought I would ask you “what do you enjoy doing and what brings you peace?”

I absolutely love Chuck Wild of “Liquid Mind” I listen to it a lot on Pandora.

And I enjoy my cooking shows. Bobby Flay and Andrew Zimmer.

I’m trying to get to the point where I don’t even watch tv. I definitely don’t watch the news. I need to go back and read “Norman Vincent Peale” books again. Anyone else have any good authors? Or good suggestions?

So funny I haven’t thought of this publication in years when I was writing this post and it popped into my head.

      Hi Boulder …

I enjoy watching all those cooking shows too!  Very relaxing … especially the contest ones like Chopped, Cake Wars, Cupcake Wars, Cake Boss, etc.

However, just a heads up … on Norman Vincent Peale … I don’t want to burst bubbles … but he was a Freemason that masqueraded as a Christian. :negative:   I would stay far away from his books because this is what he believed …

“He was a member of the Woodbridge Lodge in Brooklyn, grand chaplain of the grand lodge in NY, life member of the crescent shrine temple in Trenton N.J. and past imperial grand chaplain of the shrine.

Peale wrote in the Masonic Magazine, stating, “Men of different religions meet in fellowship and brotherhood under the fatherhood of God.”

His beliefs were far from those of Christianity.  Peale’s has acknowledged that his theology of positive thinking came Ernest Holmes, founder of New Age/Occultic Church of Religious Science (Ernest Holmes, The First Religious Scientist, James Reid, p. 14). The phrase “Positive Thinking” came originally from Charles Fillmore, but it was Peale who made it a cultural icon. (of course Robert Schuller used it as well.)

Peale, whose occult beliefs not only had a great influence on the world and church, has been praised by evangelical leaders. Even evangelist Billy Graham commended his books and magazines are read by millions of evangelical Christians! Ignored for his heresies and left unexposed he has had a tremendous influence on the Church through his numerous disciples.

In 1984 Norman Vincent Peale was interviewed on the Phil Donahue program,  said, “It’s not necessary to be born again. You have your way to God; I have mine. I found eternal peace in a Shinto shrine …I’ve been to Shinto shrines, and God is everywhere:

Shocked by this, Phil Donahue responded, “But you’re a Christian minister; you’re supposed to tell me that Christ is the way and the truth and the life, aren’t you?” Peale replied, “Christ is one of the ways. God is everywhere.” (Christian News, May 12, 1997, 11.)

Would anyone who holds to Christ being their Lord deny him in such a blatant manner? This is beyond question a horrible statement that rejects Christ’s Lordship.  Donahue was shocked and rightly so, but the church was not. He received no backlash or correction for this. Peale was a Universalist, believing that everyone is going to heaven as long as they believe in god, any god. That is not a Christian position.

Peale, was very much involved in the occult as he claimed to have been in touch with discarnates on several occasions. Of one encounter, Peale wrote: “I was seated on the platform of a large auditorium …. Some ten thousand persons . . . were singing hymns …. Then I “saw” him, my father who had died long before at age eighty-five. He came striding down the aisle . . . about forty years old …. I was spellbound… [by] what I was “seeing.” The huge auditorium faded away. I was only with him. Getting closer, he smiled that great smile of his. He raised his arm in the old-time gesture …. I arose from the chair, advanced to the edge of the platform., reaching for him. Then he was gone, leaving me shaken, somewhat embarrassed by my actions, but happy at the same time ….”

Peale endorsed the book The Jesus Letters by Jane Palzere and Anna Brown. “What a wonderful gift to all of us from you is your book. You will bless many by this truly inspired book.” This was a book communicated through a process known as automatic writing by a spirit who called himself Jesus.

In The Magic Power of Your Mind by Natter Germain, Peale is cited 4 times in agreement with the books stated purpose: “[It] shows how you can harness ESP, hypnotism, telepathy, clairvoyance and auto- suggestion to achieve health, wealth and happiness beyond your dreams.”

I have lost interest in most of the things I did pre-covid but I still really enjoy playing my guitars. They bring me peace and it doesn’t feel like a waste of time.

Well I guess different strokes for different folks, Boulder. With respect, after four minutes of the Liquid Mind I felt like I was about to drown!  I listened until I finished reading the thread.  (Phew!)

I also find Norman Vincent unappealing. (Sigh!) :negative:

I find several hours a day every day very satisfying as an online missionary — email, facebook, whatsapp — working with Global Media Outreach.

I also like YouTube and find a lot to soak in. I found a series by the Institute of Human Anatomy there — who explain a lot of medical conditions using preserved cadaver parts —  absolutely fascinating.

I guess it’s good we’re not all keyed alike.

A song “Lavender Blue” by Sammy

Turner makes me think of Jesus

and Heaven. It helps to relax and

de-stress me. Maybe it will be help

ful to someone else reading this.

my husband relaxes being outdoors, and keeping bees. we look forward to honey. in years when the weather is good and there is enough pollen, spinning honey out of the frames in the spring and autumn. God reminds us of His wisdom and kindness from creation.

That is wonderful! My next door neighbor keeps bees so I always have a large mason jar of it on hand. God’s creation is just amazing! I’m constantly in awe of it.

Praise and worship music is definitely my escape.  I was going to say listening to JD, Amir, and others – but the reality is that does nothing but fuel my anxiety with all that is going on with the world – whereas praise and worship music puts me back in that state of peace.

I have also picked up a commercial sewing machine and am exploring leather crafting (purses, bags, Bible covers, belts, wallets, et al) and pushing towards upholstery.   My dad upholstered hot rod show cars for decades as a hobby and there’s a peace that comes from hearing the mechanicals of the sewing machine going on for hour after hour.   I remember as a kid sitting by my dad just watching as he turned leather into amazing works of art.   Maybe its just a desire to return to the days of my youth in the early 60’s when life was simpler.

      Vicki, love that song!

Music of my generation mostly consisted of love songs, secular but celebrated intimate relationship!

These could easily be translated over and sung to Jesus!

      Boulder,

Great idea! I too have given up on the news, it is what it is and I’d rather be uplifting to fellow believers, the news does not give me that mind set.
I also relax in quoting scripture, I’m a huge memory guru and encourage others to commit our Father’s Word to memory in order to preserve what may soon be outlawed.
Listening to praise music, mostly the Getty music and singers of the Psalms.
Talking with my Grandchildren, I have 13 and two live next door now, so it is a blessing to give the morsels of living for Christ and the beauty of this.
Attending church is about all the socializing I do, even as the Pastors wife, I’m limited now.
IF we are here in spring, I will begin my garden and I’m thinking about adding chickens and bees. I live to be in my garden. Not much I don’t grow. When my granddaughter and her friend helped to harvest the last of the potatoes this past September, it was great to see their excitement and joy.
Spending time with family is about it for now. I have a almost constant communication with the Father. That brings peace and a dunce of true reality. Looking forward to that trumpet as each moment passes. :prayer-hands:

Tammie, the fervor of our hope of being called out and up only grows more real with each passing moment for me as well!

Rather than trying to live on an emotional knife’s edge 24/7 I now more often lean into trust!

      Your bride awaits Lord!

So true TR – I find I am so much more detached from the earthly ongoing saga, it’s worse than any soap opera ever was (if I had watched them) … even our favorite folks (JD, etc) tend to lean heavily on the things unfolding instead of uplifting and averting all eyes and ears upward.
I can envision our new dwelling, our Father’s face and our Savior, I work at feeling only His presence of Love. As David said “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire but you … Psalm 73:25

In my gardens working or piddling which is most every day living in the deep south. Just talking to the Lord or listening and constantly observing the beauty around me. It’s just Him and me. When I am scared I just love to hold my Bible , sometimes close to my chest. Other times just saying His name, ‘Jesus’ is is an instant overwhelming peace.

I find that I need Him more  and more each day and so I need to feel that ‘closeness’ as Him being my CONSTANT Everything. He is so good to me :thankyou

Every night from 8-10pm, Monday thru Friday, I take a drive and listen to Pastor Ernie Sanders’s live radio show, “What’s Right, What’s Left.”  I have been doing this ever since March 2020 when our communist dictator mayor Michael Hancock and our Sodomite communist dictator governor Jared Polis shut down Colorado.  Pastor Ernie is amazing.  I am a huge fan. He’s syndicated all over the country.
