Technically … the lyrics is all Dolly’s words/thoughts and did not really come directly from God. She says it took her weeks/months to write it.
Per the TodayShow interview article …
The song is titled “Don’t Make Have To Me Come Down There.” Parton said the idea for the song came to her from a dream of God standing on a mountain, looking down at the world and saying, “Don’t make me have to come down there.”
“It woke me up,” she said. “I got up, and I started writing this song and over a period of weeks and months, I finished it as things would come to me. I just felt like I should drop it on my birthday.”
Parton told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb last month that this album is different from all her previous ones — and might even be better.
“I really think it’s some of the best work I’ve ever done,” she said. “I think so only because it’s different for me. I wanted it to be good.”

I didn’t realize this but just learned Dolly is the godmother to Miley Cyrus.
In the comment section of a yahoo article
I guess she got this song’s lyrics from a dream she had, but really you need to witness to your goddaughter Miley. Has God put that on your heart? Her New Year Eve celebration in Miami was in the Biblical sense an abomination when she was all over another woman who was performing a song. I turned the channel but you, Dolly participated in that New Year Eve event. You promote and encourage her by being a part of the television program.

But maybe this song will be a tool to convict some to salvation?

Well …… well ….. no words ….. not truly biblical, God is not a tyrant …. Nothing about Jesus in the song …. Maybe just a watered down version that we have seen often from the Hollywood crowd.
I like her, but she has come a bit far from her original roots of singing in a church. Fame and fortune can do that to folks.

I turned the volume off a few seconds after it started and just read the lyrics.
This whole song is silly. The words are shallow. It makes God look like……………..can’t find the words….some impatient father, not knowing the right words to use to talk to his children…………..

Well, presenting it as a dream and not a direct message from God, I think it is a fun way of making people think of what God must think of this mess. I don’t see anything wrong with it. It would be nice if she had presented the way out, but she is making an album. Maybe she told of Jesus in some of the other songs. I think it is great that it will get blasted over the airways, and who knows, it may be used to convict someone to turn to God.

I’m wondering if she didn’t write it with her goddaughter in mind!
“Godparents are often chosen for their relationship with the Lord and their relationship to the parents of the newborn child. The choosing of godparents and the role to become a godparent is no light matter, it is a great honor that should be taken seriously. Example Esther: When she is chosen to become Queen by King Xerxes, she is suddenly faced with huge decisions concerning her people. Mordecai encourages her in her faith and in the courage of God to act.” (Crosswalk)
It’s catchy and as Blue mentioned, it gives the perspective of how God may feel in the state of this world!
It’s simplistic, yet a heavy message for many to consider. I believe there are different strokes for different folks and we never know what God can use to get peoples attention to draw them in or back to Him.

Yes, she could have written it with her goddaughter in mind, especially since she says to put on something decent to wear. Sounds like a scolding I would have gotten from my grandmother when I was a teen. And, maybe Dolly really meant to warn people that He is going to come down here soon.

I didn’t mean to criticize Dolly. I was just thinking out loud about how I felt when I read the lyrics to the song.
I like her song “here you come again”. I also loved the movie Steel Magnolias.

Kolleen, your name reminds me of Dolly’s song Killeen, yes I listened to the song and it had a likable sound to it, after all she is a very skilled songwriter, especially when she sang duets with Kenny Logging, no, no not him, Kenny Rogers, just seeing if you remembered, with a figure like she has and being around celebrities all her life I can understand how difficult it had to be when men wanted to use her for their desires and not respect her talents, but I think she stood her ground in the movie 9 to 5, I just hope she kept her virtues after the movie, Good golly for Hollywood, if anyone could tame that beast, I’m sure Dolly Could

It is likely that spell check corrections find Killeen, Texas and automatically “correct” what is entered.
